Ile Ife is believed to have come to existance roughly around 500 AD, it's known to be the land of origin for the Yorubas,the story of creation from the Yoruba's Library is believed to have taken place in Ile Ife, currently the Best University in ICT in west Africa is the University of Ile Ife, which is Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
As popular and civilized as it seems, the city never lets go of their old way. since the time of Oduduwa their fore-father, there is the worship of deities, there are 401 gods if not more in Ife alone not to talk about other local villages around it, and every day of the year is said to be a sacrificial day to either one or more to their gods.
The recent trend that has enveloped the city is a warning messege for this great city, there are banners around the city (one was sited at Lagere near the Post Office) which no one claims ownership of or admits to have placed them, the message boldly stated that their gods whom they worship is eating the destinies of their children, and if they dont turn away from their worship to those man made gods the wrath of the almighty God, the creator of the universe will fall upon the city. The warning as it was boldly printed on a banner dated 1st of October to to be a deadline for the juju worshipers of Ile Ife.
I have a strong belief that this is not a mere threat or propaganda because there is a higher power, greater than that of any other gods in existence in the universe and he must be the author of this warning. please Ile Ife beware and take heed!
